Aynsome Manor Park is beautifully landscaped with lakes, streams, trees, lodge houses and an orchard. The ducks are a permanent feature and take regular walks around the park to see everyone!

Aynsome Manor Hotel, a lovely Georgian house, is adjacent to the park. It boasts a five course dinner superbly prepared from fresh local produce served in their candlelit Georgian dining room.

For us, Cartmel is one of the most interesting and unique villages in the Lakes, a beautiful ancient village. The walks all round Cartmel, and from Aynsome Manor park, especially over Hempsfell are unmissable. There are plenty of guides to them in the Lodge, and all the maps you will need.

Pubs and Inns are plentiful. There are two in the square, the Kings Arms and the Red Lion. Duck under the arch and you have the Cavendish Arms, the oldest of the Inns and finally, standing sentinel on the edge of the village, is the Pig and Whistle. All offer good local ales and pub food. For finer dining there is the L'Enclume Restaurant, with superb cuisine, you are wise to pre-book a reservation.

On the edge of the village is The Cartmel Race Track, the smallest National Hunt course in the country. Small maybe, but on race days people flock to the village to create a terrific carnival atmosphere!

Grange-over-Sands is only 3 miles away, a lovely little Edwardian seaside resort by Morecambe Bay.
